Why Choose Fibreglass and Resin Over Epoxy Paint?

  • A quality fibreglass and resin coating can last approximately 15 to 20 years, while epoxy pool paint typically requires recoating after 3 to 4 years as it degrades, chalks or fails.
  • Fibreglass matting can bridge cracks, help stop leaks and rebuild compromised areas, providing true structural repair rather than a cosmetic finish.
  • The fibreglass matting and resin lining system forms a structural, waterproof composite shell that chemically fuses to the prepared pool substrate. Unlike epoxy paint, which sits on the surface as a thin coating, fibreglass becomes an integrated part of the pool shell.
  • Gelcoat or flow coat top coating layers over the fibreglass also provide stronger resistance to impact, UV fading, chalking and everyday wear.

Our Pool Resurfacing Method

Step 1: The pool is completely drained and allowed to dry. Existing epoxy paint is mechanically ground away so the new system can bond directly to clean, porous concrete. Cracks, holes and spalled areas are inspected and repaired using high quality repair and sealing products.

Step 2: Dust is removed, the surface is cleaned and a laminating resin base coat or specialised concrete primer is applied. Wet resin is rolled onto the prepared concrete, followed by chopped-strand fibreglass mat and additional resin. A bubble-buster roller removes trapped air to create a solid, flexible waterproof shell.

Step 3: After curing and light preparation, flow coat is applied for a smooth, waterproof and UV-resistant finish. The completed shell normally cures for 7 to 14 days, depending on weather and resin type, before refilling and balancing the pool water.
